Day 25 - Tangier, Morocco. With nerves frayed after a week’s wait and various false starts, and with sea sickness tablets and malt loaf supplies running dangerously low, I finally got my window of opportunity to attempt to swim the Strait of Gibraltar on Saturday afternoon. Setting off from the Tarifa headland at 12.25pm...

> Woohoo !! .... I'm standing in Morocco!
Text from Rob at 6:27 pm Saturday 24 October 2009 :
Woohoo ! I'm standing in Morocco! Over 6 brutal hours, but I'm absolutely chuffed to have made it. Approx 25 km, loads of dolphins and pilot whales for company - quite amazing !! More later !!

Day 22 - Tarifa, Spain. Due to the unbelievable generosity of businesses, friends, family and even strangers in making donations to Re-Cycle Tri4africa is already on the verge of achieving its initial target of raising £1 per mile and there is still a further 7 months of the challenge remaining!! In light of this I have decided to embrace the metric system and raise the target to £1 per km instead! The more money that can be...

Day 20 - Unfortunately the kite surfing capital of Europe, Tarifa, is living up to its reputation and the fierce and unpredictable winds are preventing me from unleashing my doggy paddle on the Strait. Still maybe this is a blessing in disguise as I now have a great opportunity to rest up, feed up and train up with Helen providing excellent company as always! Thanks to Blue Seventy I have a brilliant Helix wet suit which I have been testing out along the waterfront...

Day 18 - Hola Sinor´s and Sinorita´s
After just over two adventure filled weeks and 2500km I have finally made it to Tarifa a bit leaner, hairier, more culturally aware, just as linguistically challenged and with some truly horrendous cycle tan marks. Far from being a warm-up the race has been on from the second I landed in France, to get to Tarifa with winter fast approaching and conditions becoming less favourable by the day to make a swim attempt. ...

Day 17 - Tarifa, Spain. 2,500 km.
Result - I´ve made it to Tarifa in great time and therefore increased my chances of getting good conditions to attempt the swim. The final day of the warm up was far from easy with howling winds and hills agonisingly reducing my speeds to those I experienced heading south through France. On one particularly steep hill with a hellish head wind and various niggles giving me pain I reached an all time low of the trip and got off and pushed....

Day 16 - Vercel, near Uttrera, Spain. Today I discovered who the real endurance athletes are - teachers!! After taking 3 assemblies at the British School of Cordoba I was as tired and ravenous as after any day of cycling! It was a great morning and more than worth the detour. The pink horn went down a storm and the kids asked some brilliant questions - clearly I need to spend more time on my strategies for evading lions and sharks!
Massive thanks to the school for...

Day 15 - Cordoba, Spain. Either I'm getting quicker or the prospect of a home cooked meal, getting some clothes washed and having a good catch up with friends spurred me on as I crossed the Cordoba mountain range in double quick time for my earliest finish of the trip - 5.15pm!
Tomorrow I'm visiting the Colegio Britanico de Cordobato to inspire some future Spanish triathletes and encourage them to take on Africa by bike, i'm sure their folks are going to appreciate that!...

Day 14 - 2,013km Llerena, Spain. Things are getting very fruity and it´s not just the malt loaf - It was a hot sweaty day (30c+) on the road during which I had my first puncture of the trip as a result of following a Spanish couple off road on the way to what I believed was going to be a Peregrine Falcon sanctuary but turned out to to be a Pilgrims resting place! not quite as bad as my last language misunderstanding which resulted in what can only be described as ofal dumplings for breakfast...

> Bit of a struggle
Day 13 - 1832km Caceras, Spain. I'm not sure if it was the psychological blow of running out of malt loaf or if someone had snuck some bricks into my panniers but today was a real struggle. Fortunately the tail wind continued and despite having to cross the Sierra Gredos, which provided some beautiful scenery, I was largely descending off the plateau. By the afternoon my legs were lifeless, fortunately a couple of spanish riders have just treated me to a much needed spanish feast and a...
