> Tailwind at last!
Day 12 - 1661km Guijuelo, Spain. Another good day helped by tail winds across the plateau, camping in park. Have just used my only pair of boxers to give my chain a much needed clean, I'm not sure which came off dirtier but at least I've got my priorities right. Struggling to work my camping stove...maybe should have practiced before I set off...so I've had to tuck into my emergency Soreen Malt Loaf - desperate times.

Day 11 - 1453km Duenes, Spain. Great to do my first 200k day, unfortunately a number of them were in the wrong direction! Long eventful day that started with a tuna pasty, included a local joker sending me up the wrong valley, and concluded with a police escort, heavily negotiated fine and night ride! Tomorrow I'm going to top that by tracking down a Great Bustard. I'm staying in a sketchy motel that has one of 'those clubs' next door.

Day 10 - 1280km Miranda de Ebro, Spain. A nutritious chocolate biscuit breakie set me up perfectly for a 9k alpine climb through the clouds and rain that took two hours to go up and only 10 minutes to come down! Which set the tone for a grueling day of alpine riding. I'll be very glad to see the back of the pyra-knees wreckers.
Got some good support from spainards along the way including a group of kids who followered me through Begara before giving up when I showed them my...

Day 9 - 1138km Azpeita, Spain. Unpleasant day spent sucking fumes and dodging lorries on busy coastal route which accidentally included moterway tunnels! Highlight of the day was two cracking kebabs for lunch. Camping wild again on a slope behind a swimming pool fence - i think the owners dog is on to me so I'm going to hang out some lycra to ward it off.

Day 8 - 1026km Biarritz, France. Made it to Biarittz by night fall and then got led on a merry go round by a local french guy trying to help me find a youth hostel, still got there eventually. Long ride through some serious storms, wet and tired!

Day 7 - 854km Hostens, France. I've hit the jack pot again, managed to get in to some closed camp site and all the showers etc are working! Had a flying start to the day with a bowl of kellogs corn flakes courtesy of my generous hosts Linda and Christopher who were more than happy to take a smelly lycra clad stranger in the night. Long day, beautiful vineyards and forests, although the head wind - which I'm starting to take very personally - kept speeds down.

Day 4 - 463km Bourgneuf-en-Mauges, France. Hey guys some nice french lady has taken pity on me and allowed me to camp in her back garden, there are chairs and everything - what luxury! She's even invited me in to have a shower which will be my first in France and boy do I need it! We can't really communicate so it's a bit like chirads.

Day 3 - 320km Gorron, France. Serious headwind and surprisingly hilly, had a great day though - the scenery along the river was awesome. Just set up tent in a nice spot - camping wild in some orchard - I reckon I can sleep from now till morn!
