> Charity target increase & thanks

Thursday, 22 October 2009 - 18:21

Day 22 - Tarifa, Spain.    Due to the unbelievable generosity of businesses, friends, family and even strangers in making donations to Re-Cycle Tri4africa is already on the verge of achieving its initial target of raising £1 per mile and there is still a further 7 months of the challenge remaining!! In light of this I have decided to embrace the metric system and raise the target to £1 per km instead! The more money that can be raised the greater the number of old bikes that can be recycled and delivered to people in Africa. Raising such a significant sum will also have a really meaningful and long lasting impact by potentially paying for the establishment of new partner projects that distribute bikes and train mechanics, so please keep donating if you have not done so already...

The response so far has been truly phenomenal and I am extremly grateful to everyone who has donated. It has been great to see donations continuing to come in while I have been on the road and I apologise for not having had an opportunity to thank you personally. In particularly I would like to thank two of my previous employers EDP and PenBev for their hugely generous donations. Special thanks also to Lor, Patsy, Jason and Jess, and previously the Lewis and Gutsche clans - all relatives I am looking forward to catching up with next summer. Thanks also to Ben for his hugely generous donation and interesting selection of tunes! Thanks to John Davies for picking up the bargain that was Botswana and further thanks to Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club (hopefully see some of you at the Comrades start line!), Sara, Nicola, Chloe, Bennyr (cheers for the PR as well) and more importantly his sister Maryam, Heather, Adam, Arya, Leonardo (hopefully see you in Cameroon), Pep (I´m holding you to that pizza), Peter and Janet, Riki, Rob and Cynthia, Martha, Windus, Margaret, Laeititia, Emma, Steph, Anna, Matt, Biddy, Tom and Sal, The Rossiters..... I really appreciate your generosity - gracias.

Thanks also to Marion for quite possibly the best brownies I´ve ever tasted, but then I have been subjected to Spanish cakes for over a week so I may be a bit biased, and also the country maps and Moroccan dirham - much appreciated. Thanks should also go to Helen and Joe for doing an awesome job in keeping the website up to date and my folks and Nick for their support and help with providing contacts and communication devices - rest assured there is no longer any chance of me disappearing off the radar when I eventually make it to Africa!

The frustrating wait for suitable swim conditions continues and unfortunately Helen has had to return to the UK so I am anxiously sitting around in my trunks eating pasta, wondering what language sharks are likely to respond to and waiting for the call to say it´s on. With the wind howling still it is taking all my self restraint not to blow my budget on kite surfing lessons, after all this is starting to look like my best bet for getting to Morocco.
