> Welcome to the Western Sahara

Monday, 9 November 2009 - 23:40

Day 40 - 4109 km Tarfaya. Sand dunes, camels and police check points were all in abundance today as I made good progress into the disputed Western Sahara. At times this morning I was flying due to a combination of the infamous sahara winds shoving me in the back and more significantly my new areo-dynamic hair cut. By afternoon though the tables had turned as I changed direction and the wind intensified, lashing my face and freshly exposed nape with stinging sand and reducing my speed to a less than a reluctant camels pace. Still I escaped the desert, hit the coast again and made for Tarfaya by dark utterly exhausted. With limited supplies left and no camping facilities I've played it safe and got myself a delightful hotel for £2.50 complete with a sizable dead fish on the toilet floor!?

Hello!

Hi Rob

Not sure if this is going to get through to you?! Just to say we are all thinking of you so much and love reading your blog every night.  Am reading Riaan Munsers book and really enjoying learning a bit more about the coast you are navigating!  Lots of love Kirst
