Day 91, 9012 km, Jafar (Gyafo), Ghana

Taking a welcome, if surreal, time out from the stifling heat and ever increasing humidity, I had an interview today with BBC radio 5 live while fending off a cloud of belligerent perspiration bees. Unfortunately Helen has picked up the amoebic parasite giardia but is gamely battling on despite some very eggy side effects which leave me deeply concerned about the night ahead in our shared 1 man tent! With my route choice deteriorating to corrugated dirt, I am about as far from the good books as I am from South Africa, but with the medication already working she’s keen to pedal it out! Despite her illness she is also enforcing an improvement in my personal hygiene standards with bush showers now a regular on the daily schedule!

(Listen to the interview on http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00pgnpt from 2 hours 52 minutes)
