Day 114 - Fri 22 Jan – 11,226 km, Tyowanye, Nigeria
To give you an idea of my daily consumption following a fairly uneventful slow day covering 135 km in over 8 hours riding, here’s a list of the food I consumed:
- 1/2 a loaf of sweet white bread with jam
- a bowl of sweet gruel with dense yellow Nigerian bread
- 2 bags of nuts
- jumbo deep fried dough ball
- pounded yam with fish & beef egusi (stew based on ground melon seeds & chilli)
- mug of palm wine (which didn’t help with the afternoon’s progress !)
- 5 bananas
- packet of imitation digestive biscuits
- bag of yam chips with fiery pepper stew
- omelette
- fried plantain
- half a pineapple
- 2 oranges
- sachet of homemade yogurt
- and lastly, more banana split biscuits
The total cost was approx 550 naira equivalent to just over £2 – bargain! Other Nigerian favourites I didn’t eat today are akari - bean fritters; suya - seasoned and grilled street meat; and jollof rice – spicy rice often with a bizarre mix of pasta, salad and sauces. Sadly malt loaf has to be saved for special occasions.

fatty!
Suprised you have time to cycle when you're eating so much!! 5 bananas is pretty impressive in one day. So impressed by your progress - keep up the good work. Drove past the Ham nature reserve on Saturday and thought it was looking in need of a bit of TLC...it's obviously missing it's chief weeder! Murray is through to the 1/4 finals at the Australian Open - against Nadal! xx
Hi! Rob,
It is not a suprise
Hi! Rob,
It is not a suprise Rob, looking at the distance so far covered you more of these for more ATP (energy) to keep you going. More lubricant to you waist, knees and ankle, pls less or no more palmwine. Bye!
Harsh but fair
Forbes no wonder you're slow as a granny, your spending most of your time treating yourself to such luxuries, crack on! :)
