> Catch some dinner

Day 185 – Sat 3 April - 15,347km, Rio Longa, Angola

The tropical forests have been left far behind now and we spent another relatively short but extremely hot day passing through increasingly barren and arid coastal scrub. Although we’re cycling through the Quicama National Park, it is more like a car graveyard with no sign of wildlife and an ominous number of mangled shells lining even the slightest deviation in the road. Finding a sweet spot to camp on the banks of the Rio Longa, my need for a wash far out weighed the risk posed by hippos and crocs, so I went for a refreshing dip and am now trying to catch us some dinner, but the fish and crabs aren’t going for the frankfurter bait! Let’s hope Helen isn’t too fussy because it looks like they’ll be the only thing on our menu tonight!
