Day 94, 9312 km, Ejisu, Ghana
After 3 months riding I have finally arrived in the tropics which means there’s an abundance of tropical wildlife, luscious scenery and tasty cheap fresh fruit (bananas and oranges at a few pence, pineapples only 30p). Unfortunately the rugged terrain and humid conditions also result in very slow and incredibly sweaty progress that has given rise to a whole new range of chafing hot spots! There is very much a holiday atmosphere in all the settlements with music blaring, people hanging out on the streets and judging by some of the characters, a fair amount of booze consumed. The downside has been a couple of unpleasant encounters highlighting what a blight on society alcohol can be & providing a stark contrast to the Muslim countries I have been travelling through. Anyway, stimulated by an ice cold beer & following on from yesterday’s blog I have a new political biscuit to add to the mix.
Gordon Brown “the rich tea” – possibly the most boring biscuit in the cabinet, the ever present rich tea struggles on in the public domain despite appearing to not be popular with anyone. Their limited support can only be justified on financial grounds and although their name provides promise as a solid delivery vehicle for tea, when they finally get plucked from the cabinet, largely as a result of limited other options, they disappointingly lose their shape and consistency under the pressure of being dunked.
