Day 116 – Sun 24 Jan – 11,376 km, Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, Nigeria
Jumping on an invitation to visit the Afi Wildlife Sanctuary, I arrived a sweating wreck late on Saturday evening after tackling the tortuous 13 km entrance track deep into beautiful mountain rainforests. With spectacular surroundings, unbelievable wildlife and a fun research team, I couldn’t resist enjoying a much needed rest day. Some of the residents were a little bit too pleased to see me with one drill choosing to pleasure himself repeatedly by my feet, others were less receptive, particularly the alpha chimp, who hurled various rocks at me missing my crown jewels by inches!
The Drill Ranch at Afi Sanctuary is a fantastic rehabilitation and reintroduction centre for the highly endangered drill primate. Do check out the website www.pandrillus.org
