> Pie Stops
Day 215 - Mon 3 May ~ 18,282km, Palapye, Botswana
What a difference a day makes... with tail winds giving me a helping hand, I was able to make great progress despite a casual start to the day after saying goodbye to my hosts & being bewildered by the food options in the Pick n Pay supermarket. The road was a lot busier than I'm used to, even if it's still not a patch on England's linear car parks, but the bonus is regular filling stations or in my case, pie stops. At one such stop I had to play up to my wild and mentally unstable appearance in order to deter a local drunk from taking too close an interest in Bertha & her baggage. Judging by the number of headache tablets engulfing all the shop tills I'm guessing he's not the only local who enjoys a drink despite the president's stance against alcohol through some seriously hefty taxes. At least Botswana is a rare African example of how to use such taxes and mineral wealth wisely with electricity, running water & education available in even the remotest communities.
