> A day to forget
Day 109 – Sunday 17 January – 10,536 km, 25k east of Llorin, Ghana
Today was one to forget with terrible road conditions and high speed tankers thundering past blaring their horns and spewing exhaust fumes into my face. These factors, combined with the continual hills and pop of motorcycles, might go some way towards explaining why, shockingly after 3 days riding in Nigeria, I haven’t come across a single person on a bicycle. Nigeria is crying out for Re-Cycle help! Still the standard of English is quite high and I met lots of interested folk along the way who were totally unable to comprehend or understand my trip, but were exceptionally keen to become my friend and get an official invitation to England. Other Rob Forbes’s, with similar email addresses to my own, might be getting a bit of extra Nigerian spam as a result! Feeling the need to better inform the inquisitive public and really just wanting an excuse for a break, I stopped on a whim at a Nigerian radio station as I was passing and I’m now lined up for the breakfast show tomorrow to inspire some Nigerian cyclists. Let’s hope no other Nigerians want to make my acquaintance at my camping spot in the bush nearby.
