Day 214 – Sun 2 May - 18,107 km, Francistown, Botswana
In a reversal of yesterday’s routine, I cycled 145km and then forced my tired legs to go for a cool down run. Feeling the effects of the wind I resorted to dropping my flags to half mast and hitting the pro plus (caffeine tablets) to get through. The police and army road blocks of other African countries have now been replaced by disease control check points (foot and mouth) through which you are not allowed to take meat and have to use dips in order to comply with EU requirements! Ridiculously the EU still heavily subsidises beef from Botswana as a legacy of Colonial guilt. I’m now kindly being put up in Francistown by Mike, Lisa and Nick, who fully appreciating British traditions, have also fixed me up with my first Sunday roast since setting off from England – even my dear mother’s Sunday best would struggle to top how amazing it tasted after a hard day in the saddle.
